The Department of Agriculture will engage in key bilateral talks with international partners during the global summit to promote sustainable farming technologies and strengthen agricultural value chains.

MANILA — The Philippines, through its Department of Agriculture (DA), is set to host the Asia-Pacific Conference on Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization (APSAM) 2026 from November 23 to 26 in Manila. This global gathering of agricultural leaders and experts aims to advance sustainable mechanization practices across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.

The DA will participate in bilateral discussions with representatives from several countries during the conference to explore cooperative opportunities in strengthening agricultural mechanization. While the DA spokesperson, Arnel de Mesa, confirmed multiple bilateral requests, the specific countries involved and the detailed agenda of these talks remain undisclosed until after the meetings conclude.

Organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, APSAM 2026 seeks to promote an integrated agricultural mechanization ecosystem that embraces appropriate technologies, accessible services, innovative financing models, sound policies, and strategic partnerships tailored to the diverse needs of farmers.

“By collaborating, we can accelerate the adoption of suitable technologies, enhance agricultural value chains, and create farming systems that are more productive, resilient, and sustainable,” said De Mesa. Apart from Asia-Pacific nations, attendees will include agricultural representatives from other continents, including Africa, fostering a broad exchange of best practices and innovative solutions.

This initiative aligns with the Philippine government’s efforts to modernize agriculture, improve farm productivity, and support farmers through sustainable mechanization, which is crucial for food security and rural development.
