China’s Communist Party Tightens Discipline, Demands Loyalty Amid Anti-Corruption Drive

Unique Times

China’s ruling Communist Party has released an official resolution emphasizing loyalty to the party, intensifying internal discipline, and continuing its extensive anti-corruption campaign ahead of a major leadership reshuffle.

BEIJING — The Communist Party of China (CPC) has unveiled a formal resolution to reinforce loyalty among its members and intensify party discipline, reaffirming its commitment to a vigorous anti-corruption campaign. Released following a crucial party leadership meeting, the resolution highlights the necessity of evaluating and promoting officials based on their adherence to “party spirit,” as reflected in their daily work, behavior, social relations, and family values.

Acknowledging that issues related to ideological and organizational purity remain unresolved, the CPC aims to strengthen career-long supervision of cadres, enhance scrutiny of personal asset disclosures, and investigate discrepancies between officials’ incomes and family expenditures. The resolution further targets corruption facilitated through advanced technologies, including proxy shareholdings, cryptocurrencies, blockchain, and cross-border financial flows.

The timing of the resolution is significant, coming approximately one year before a leadership reshuffle expected to secure President Xi Jinping another five-year tenure. It reiterates the imperative for party members to safeguard Xi’s position as the party’s core and align fully with top leadership in thought and action. The drive is part of the CPC’s broader “self-revolution” intended to purge corruption and protect the party’s integrity and continuity.

This development bears potential implications for overseas workers and diplomatic relations, particularly as China maintains extensive labor and economic ties globally, including with countries such as the Philippines, India, and Greece. Continued anti-corruption efforts may also influence regulatory environments affecting employment agencies and recruitment operations connected to Chinese enterprises abroad.
