First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos inaugurated the Likha 5 exhibition in Pasay City, highlighting the talents of over 100 Filipino artisans and promoting traditional crafts to strengthen the local creative economy.
First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos led the opening of the “Likha 5: Likha ko, Lahi ko” exhibition held at the Likhang Filipino Exhibition Halls in Pasay City on October 1, 2026. The event showcases the works of more than 100 Filipino artisans, aiming to enrich and strengthen the local creative economy by bringing traditional Filipino crafts and artistry to a global market.
The exhibition features demonstrations, workshops, and talks, providing visitors with opportunities to interact with artisans and learn about the meticulous process of handcrafted product creation. This initiative also serves to pass down traditional knowledge and nurture future generations of Filipino artists, making Filipino crafts more accessible to a wider audience.
Artisans express gratitude for the platform provided by Likha, noting it as a significant boost to their livelihoods by increasing market access and customer reach. For instance, Siegrid Anne Bangyay, a ceramic artist from Sagada, shared that educating the public about the craftsmanship involved helps justify the value of their products.
Among the highlighted crafts is “Pabalat o Borlas de Pastillas,” a traditional paper-cutting art from Bulacan, which creates intricate pastillas wrappers from Japanese paper. Artisan Maria Natividad Ocampo conducts workshops in schools to preserve this delicate art form and inspire young learners.
The exhibition halls display a variety of Filipino crafts, including traditional clothing, textiles, tribal accessories, bags, baskets, and household tools. Likha 5 is open to the public from October 2 to 4, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., with free admission.
Through events like Likha 5, Filipino craftsmanship, culture, and tradition continue to thrive, supporting artisans and contributing to the preservation and celebration of the nation’s rich cultural heritage.
