President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. visited the newly mechanized Visayas Disaster Resource Center in Mandaue City, Cebu, highlighting its significant role in disaster response across Visayas and Mindanao regions.
On February 26, 2026, President Ferdinand ”Bongbong” Marcos Jr., accompanied by Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian, conducted an inspection of the Visayas Disaster Resource Center (VDRC) located in Mandaue City, Cebu. The visit showcased the center’s latest mechanized production systems which have modernized operations that were previously manual. President Marcos emphasized that the production at the facility is projected to reach beyond five million units, underscoring the importance of the upgraded machinery which was locally designed and built specifically for Philippine needs.
The VDRC functions as the main hub for production, storage, and logistics supporting disaster response for the Visayas and Mindanao regions. It plays a vital role in the timely preparation and distribution of relief goods to communities affected by natural calamities and emergencies. In addition to the Cebu facility, similar centers are operational in Luzon, and a new facility is planned for construction in Butuan City to further enhance regional disaster preparedness and response.
Since July 2025, the center has integrated a state-of-the-art Mechanized Production System (MPS) including automatic vacuum packaging lines to increase efficiency in relief operations. This advancement marks a significant step in bolstering the country’s capability to respond promptly and effectively to disasters affecting large populations.
