Philippine President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. and First Lady Louise 'Liza' Araneta-Marcos will undertake an official state visit to Japan from May 26 to 29, 2026, strengthening bilateral ties and discussing strategic partnerships.
The Presidential Communications Office announced that President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. and First Lady Louise ‘Liza’ Araneta-Marcos will conduct a state visit to Japan from May 26 to 29, 2026. This visit follows an invitation from the Japanese government. During their stay, the First Couple will be received by Their Majesties, the Emperor and Empress of Japan, at the Imperial Palace for a formal welcome ceremony and state call.
President Marcos is scheduled to hold a summit meeting with Japan’s Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae. Key discussion points will include the future trajectory of Philippines-Japan relations and the strengthening of their strategic partnership. They are also expected to continue talks on current international issues such as energy, food security, and maritime security.
Aside from political discussions, President Marcos will engage with Japanese business communities as well as members of the Filipino diaspora in Japan. This visit follows previous official trips by President Marcos to Japan, including a visit in February 2023, participation in the ASEAN-Japan Summit in December 2023, and attendance at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka with the First Lady in June 2025.
This state visit reflects ongoing efforts to deepen cooperation between the Philippines and Japan, particularly in areas critical to regional development and security.
