Senators Alan Peter and Pia Cayetano returned to the Philippines after a brief private trip to Singapore for rest and support activities, addressing public queries about their travel abroad amid political controversies.
Senators Alan Peter Cayetano and Pia Cayetano have returned to the Philippines following a short private trip to Singapore. Senator Alan Peter Cayetano explained that he traveled with his family to Singapore simply to rest, responding to public inquiries about the purpose of their foreign trip. In a Facebook Live session, he described the visit as a private and routine break without ulterior motives. Senator Pia Cayetano separately stated that she traveled to Singapore to support the Philippine Padel National Team participating in the Asian Games.
Upon arriving at Ninoy Aquino International Airport early Sunday, both senators affirmed that their trip was legitimate and devoid of any wrongdoing. Senator Alan Peter Cayetano also noted that responsible government authorities, including the Bureau of Immigration and the Office of the Ombudsman, confirmed there was no legal impediment to their travel.
Their travel generated controversy due to previous allegations linking Senator Alan Peter Cayetano to issues involving the construction of the cauldron used in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games and accusations filed by Senator Panfilo Lacson regarding supposed irregularities in flood control infrastructure projects in Taguig City, a political stronghold of the Cayetano family. Senator Alan Peter described these allegations as political persecution and expressed his reliance on divine justice amid ongoing investigations and changing claims.
This return underscores the heightened political tensions in the Philippines, where routine activities by public officials can become subjects of intense scrutiny and dispute.
