TESDA Enhances Skills Passport Security with New Electronic Identity Verification

Unique Times

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority of the Philippines strengthens its digital Skills Passport by introducing a robust eKYC feature, improving identity authentication for learners and jobseekers.

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) of the Philippines has launched a new electronic Know-Your-Customer (eKYC) feature within its TESDA Skills Passport platform. This enhancement is designed to bolster identity verification protocols, thereby increasing security for jobseekers and learners who utilize the digital system.

The eKYC feature provides multiple secure methods for users to confirm their identities, such as aligning personal data with the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) accompanied by a liveness check, or verifying with a National ID number or QR code. Additional government-issued identification forms are also accepted, including passports, driver’s licenses, Social Security System (SSS) IDs, Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) eCards, Unified Multi-Purpose IDs (UMID), Postal IDs, Voter’s IDs, and PhilHealth IDs.

TESDA Secretary Kiko Benitez described this upgrade as a critical step to ensure the Skills Passport remains a trusted and secure digital repository of competencies, certifications, and training credentials. He emphasized that the Skills Passport empowers Filipinos to manage their skills development, present their qualifications, and access employment and training services more efficiently.

Since its launch, the Skills Passport app has been downloaded nearly 244,000 times—with over 179,000 registered users on Android and iOS devices. Verified users can leverage the app to explore scholarships, job opportunities, career pathways, and various TESDA services.

TESDA also partnered with the Wadhwani Foundation to integrate My Career Advisor, an AI-powered tool that offers personalized career guidance, recommending training pathways consistent with users’ interests and skills.

Ongoing efforts aim to integrate the Skills Passport with scholarship programs and other learner services, creating a comprehensive digital ecosystem linking training, certification, scholarships, and employment support for Filipino learners and overseas workers. TESDA encourages all interested individuals to download the Skills Passport app to advance their career and skills development journey.
