The Department of Education (DepEd) assures that no public school teacher will lose employment with the implementation of the Strengthened Senior High School (SSHS) Curriculum starting School Year 2026-2027.
The Philippine Department of Education (DepEd) has officially assured public school teachers that their jobs will remain secure despite the rollout of the Strengthened Senior High School (SSHS) Curriculum across all public and private senior high schools beginning in the School Year 2026-2027. Education Secretary Sonny Angara emphasized that no public school teacher would be laid off due to the curriculum changes.
The revised curriculum aims to provide clearer academic and career pathways for senior high school students, facilitating better transitions toward higher education, employment, entrepreneurship, skills training, and public service. Angara highlighted that the curriculum refinement seeks to reduce subject congestion and fragmented offerings while increasing flexibility for learners.
Under the new framework, students in the Academic Track may choose electives in diverse fields including Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities, Business and Entrepreneurship, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), Sports, Health and Wellness, and Field Experience. Meanwhile, the Technical-Professional (TechPro) Track offers electives aligned with industry demands such as agriculture, food innovation, construction, creative arts and design, hospitality and tourism, industrial technologies, ICT, maritime, and human care.
DepEd stated that teachers currently assigned to core subjects may be reassigned to teach electives, assist with work immersion programs, manage field experiences, or support learning remediation according to their qualifications. Private schools are also expected to apply similar teacher reassignments if teaching loads are impacted.
Secretary Angara reiterated the department’s intent for students to have a clear understanding of their education’s relevance to their future plans, whether that involves higher education, employment, entrepreneurship, skills training, or public service. The overarching goal is to prevent student confusion caused by an excessive number of subjects or incompatible pathways and instead prepare students for real-life challenges.
The nationwide implementation of the Strengthened Senior High School Curriculum is set for the School Year 2026-2027, signaling a significant shift in the senior high school educational structure across the Philippines.
