Philippine Bureau of Immigration Advises Holy Week Travelers to Arrive Early and Prepare Documents

Unique Times

In anticipation of increased travel during Holy Week, the Philippine Bureau of Immigration (BI) urges passengers to arrive at airports three hours before departure and have all necessary travel documents ready to ensure smooth processing and avoid delays.

The Philippine Bureau of Immigration (BI) has issued an advisory for travelers during the Holy Week peak travel period, expected from March 28 to April 5, 2026. BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado emphasized the importance of passengers arriving at airports at least three hours prior to departure. This is to accommodate the anticipated surge in passenger traffic and to facilitate efficient immigration processing.

The BI has also increased the deployment of its frontline officers at major international airports to handle the increased volume of travelers effectively. Foreign nationals who have stayed in the Philippines for more than six months are reminded to secure their Emigration Clearance Certificates (ECC) before leaving the country. Registered foreigners holding Alien Certificate of Registration Identity Cards (ACR I-Cards) are encouraged to obtain re-entry permits in advance through BI offices or the BI One-Stop-Shop at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

Moreover, Filipino government employees traveling abroad for any reason must present a travel authority from their respective agencies. Minors traveling alone are required to secure travel clearance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Travelers are also reminded to complete the eTravel registration via the government’s website or the eGovPH app prior to travel. The Bureau continues to utilize e-gates to expedite immigration processing. Early arrival and preparation aim to reduce airport congestion and enhance the travel experience during the busy holiday.

The New NAIA Infrastructure Corporation projects over 1.35 million travelers passing through NAIA during the Holy Week period this year, underscoring the need for these precautions and enhanced immigration service readiness.
