Supermarkets Announce Price Hikes Starting April 1 Amid Rising Fuel Costs

Unique Times

In response to increased fuel prices triggered by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, several supermarkets in the Philippines will raise prices of various products from April 1.

The Philippine Amalgamated Supermarkets Association Inc. reported on March 27 that the prices of several goods in supermarkets are set to increase starting April 1. This decision follows recent hikes in fuel prices due to ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Steven Cua, president of the association, indicated that only a handful of manufacturers have announced price adjustments so far — amounts that can be counted on two hands. Among these manufacturers, one announced increases across all their products, primarily chemicals, due to shortages in raw materials. Affected items include pasta, noodles, canned goods, candies, and bottled water, with some price increases reaching up to 10%. Notably, adjustments are expected to be implemented gradually, depending on market conditions and consumer demand, rather than all at once.
