Unique Times

President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. has directed the formation of an official crisis committee to address the impact of rising fuel prices linked to the conflict in the Middle East.

Amid escalating tensions and conflict in the Middle East contributing to increasing fuel prices, Philippine President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. has ordered the creation of a crisis committee to manage and respond to the situation. According to Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro, the president issued this directive even before formal suggestions for such a committee were made. The committee’s mandate will focus on addressing the concerns of sectors impacted by the sharp rise in fuel prices, which industry sources report could see diesel prices increase by ₱16 to ₱18 per liter and gasoline by ₱9 to ₱11 per liter. This surge may push diesel prices beyond ₱120 per liter in certain stations. Last week, transport groups initiated a nationwide strike demanding government action to support drivers and operators affected by the price hike. The administration has begun distributing cash assistance, starting with tricycle drivers, to mitigate the impact. Details of the crisis committee’s structure and plans remain pending as the document is being finalized.
