The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) intensifies inspections and issues show cause orders to operators of poorly maintained public utility vehicles in Quezon City to enhance public transport safety and comfort.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has initiated a crackdown on operators of dilapidated passenger jeepneys in Quezon City as part of its campaign to improve public transportation across the Philippines. On February 10, 2026, LTFRB inspectors conducted random and surprise inspections on public utility vehicles (PUVs) and terminals, focusing on bus and jeepney conditions. At least 10 passenger jeepneys were found parked along West Avenue and Fernando Poe Jr. Avenue without designated garages, violating LTFRB Memorandum Circular No. 2017-027.
LTFRB Chairperson Vigor Mendoza II stated that show cause orders (SCOs) have been issued to these operators, signaling the agency’s commitment to eradicate run-down PUVs and terminals with inadequate facilities. Inspections noted defects including faulty brake lights, worn-out cushion seats, and ceilings. Drivers observed not wearing proper uniforms were also addressed and reminded to comply with the dress code policy.
Additionally, the terminal operator at Eton Centris in Quezon City was advised to enhance terminal facilities to ensure passengers’ safety and comfort. Nationwide, the LTFRB has issued SCOs and violation notices to 87 bus and PUV terminals as part of this intensified enforcement effort. These actions reflect the LTFRB’s determination to raise the standards of public transport infrastructure and vehicle maintenance for improved commuter experience and safety.
