The Department of Education implements the 2025 National Assessment for School Heads to enhance leadership capacity and identify qualified candidates for school principal roles.

The Philippine Department of Education (DepEd) administered the 2025 National Assessment for School Heads (NASH)–Batch 2 on May 17, involving 23,994 aspiring school principals across 65 testing sites nationwide. This initiative aims to strengthen the quality of basic education under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive by enhancing school leadership.

Education Secretary Sonny Angara emphasized that the assessment is designed to build the capacity of school leaders and expand the pool of qualified candidates for principal positions, aligning with the reform goal of “One School, One School Principal.” NASH evaluates leadership readiness based on competencies outlined in the Philippine Professional Standards for School Heads.

The results will help pinpoint competency gaps among examinees to inform targeted professional development and leadership support programs. To ensure smooth execution, DepEd deployed 132 Central Office monitors along with regional monitors and focal persons across all 17 regions. A mock assessment held on May 10 familiarized participants with the testing platform.

DepEd continues to implement NASH as part of its broader education reforms aimed at improving teaching quality, school performance, and student outcomes.
