Malacañang rejects Second Gentleman Mans Carpio's assertion of being collateral damage in Vice President Sara Duterte's impeachment trial and emphasizes the need for transparency and truth.
Malacañang Palace has publicly rejected Second Gentleman Atty. Mans Carpio’s claim that he is collateral damage amid the impeachment trial of his wife, Vice President Sara Duterte. Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro stated on October 10, 2026, that they stand with Carpio in praying for the truth to emerge amid ongoing investigations.
Carpio had expressed his hope for a swift resolution, remarking, “We are just praying that it will end soon, God willing.” He also alleged that governmental authorities appeared to be targeting him after failing to find evidence against Vice President Duterte, saying, “They can’t find anything on Sara, so it seems like I’m collateral damage.”
In response, Castro emphasized the importance of turning to the true God in prayer and reiterated the administration’s commitment to transparency. “Under President Marcos Jr., cover-ups are not allowed. No one is spared. Whether relative, friend, or ally, if evidence of wrongdoing is found, it must be investigated,” she explained.
Castro further added that if any individuals are implicated, it likely stems from credible evidence, but those without evidence will have their names cleared. This comes as the impeachment trial’s prosecution has presented testimony regarding alleged unexplained wealth and undeclared assets amounting to P817.87 million linked to Duterte and Carpio.
This ongoing political and legal proceeding has drawn significant national attention, highlighting issues of accountability and governance in the Philippines.
