The Global Tourism Business Association (GTBA) has pledged its full support to Dita Angara-Mathay following her appointment as the new secretary of the Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT).
The Global Tourism Business Association (GTBA) expressed its strong support and commitment to collaborate with the Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT) after the appointment of Dita Angara-Mathay as the new tourism secretary. GTBA President Michelle Taylan congratulated Secretary Mathay and emphasized the intention to work closely in advancing the Philippine tourism industry. The association underscored its history of partnership with previous DOT secretaries to enhance both domestic and international tourism. Angara-Mathay succeeds Christina Frasco, who was reassigned as Presidential Adviser for Sustainable and Resilient Communities. Prior to her appointment, Angara-Mathay served as the Commercial Counselor at the Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Tokyo, where she fostered strategic partnerships with Japanese industries, a key source of investment and tourism for the Philippines. The GTBA highlighted its interest in promoting the Philippines as a Muslim-friendly and halal tourism destination, aligning with the new secretary’s vision. It also noted upcoming major events like the Travel Exchange and Roadshow scheduled for August 7, 2026, which will be platforms to engage further with the DOT for tourism development. The organization reaffirmed the importance of strong government-industry collaboration to enhance the tourism sector’s recovery and growth in both local and global markets.
