President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has appointed Dita Angara-Mathay as the new Secretary of the Department of Tourism, aiming to leverage tourism as a driver for jobs, business, and regional development.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. announced the appointment of Dita Angara-Mathay as the new Secretary of the Department of Tourism. Mathay is a seasoned public servant with decades of experience in trade, investment, and international economic engagement. She replaces Christina Frasco, who has been appointed as Presidential Adviser for Sustainable and Resilient Communities. Prior to her current appointment, Angara-Mathay served as Commercial Counselor at the Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Tokyo, where she spearheaded strategic partnerships with Japanese industries — a major source of investment, technology, and tourism for the Philippines. The administration views tourism not only as a cultural showcase but also as a significant driver of employment, business growth, and regional development. Mathay has led initiatives that link global partnerships with tangible results, supporting business development, strengthening industries, and expanding opportunities for Philippine enterprises, particularly micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
