Nepal Experiences Slight Decline in International Tourist Arrivals in August 2026

Unique Times

International tourism to Nepal decreased by 3.65% in August 2026 compared to the previous year, amid ongoing monsoon season challenges.

Kathmandu, Nepal – Nepal recorded a total of 85,444 international tourist arrivals in August 2026, marking a 3.65% decrease compared to the 88,680 visitors in the same month last year, according to data reported by Nepal’s tourism authorities. The slight decline is attributed in part to the monsoon season, which traditionally impacts tourism flows. Despite the drop in August, Nepal showed resilience in July 2026 with a reported 2.3% increase in tourist arrivals, suggesting ongoing travel interest in the country despite seasonal variations. Tourism remains a critical sector for Nepal’s economy, contributing to development and employment opportunities, including for overseas workers engaged in hospitality and related industries. The government continues efforts to stabilize and promote sustainable tourism to support economic growth and development goals.
