VP Sara Duterte Defends Law School Achievements Amid Impeachment Hearing

Unique Times

Vice President Sara Duterte refutes allegations regarding her academic record and criticizes the impeachment process as a politically motivated 'mini trial'.

Vice President Sara Duterte publicly defended her academic credentials amid the ongoing impeachment hearings against her. During a House committee on justice session, allegations were made questioning her law school record. Duterte rejected claims by Ramil Madriaga that she required assistance to complete law school, affirming she graduated independently from San Sebastian College-Recoletos College of Law in May 2005 and successfully passed the Bar Exams on her first try in September 2005, with a Grade Weighted Average (GWA) of 80, surpassing the minimum passing grade.

She emphasized that she never sought special accommodations from professors nor had any complaints filed against her during her studies. Duterte also condemned the credibility of her accusers, highlighting Madriaga’s own controversial background, and described the impeachment hearing as a ‘mini trial’ characterized by abuse and corruption among some justice committee members.

Duterte further suggested that political motives, rather than genuine accountability, underpin the impeachment effort, alleging public funds are being diverted for political maneuvers during the current economic challenges. Meanwhile, Madriaga, who admitted to acting as a financial intermediary, presented further accusations including alleged plots against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. by Duterte’s patriarch, claims that remain unverified. The impeachment process continues amid heightened political tensions.
