The civil society group Tindig Pilipinas has decided to drop its impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte to consolidate support behind a similar third impeachment complaint filed by religious and legal sectors, aiming to strengthen efforts to hold her accountable.
Tindig Pilipinas, a civil society organization that filed the second impeachment complaint against Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte, announced it will formally withdraw its complaint to support a third impeachment case being pursued by religious groups, priests, and lawyers. The group stated that this strategic consolidation hopes to strengthen their position and better advance the case toward the Senate trial. The second complaint, filed on February 2, alleged constitutional violations, graft and corruption, bribery, unexplained wealth, gross incompetence, abuse of power, and the toleration of extrajudicial killings. Key endorsers included ML Party-list Representative Leila de Lima and Akbayan Representative Percy Cendaña. Tindig Pilipinas emphasized the need for swift proceedings free of procedural delays, urging accountability for alleged plunder and abuse of power. The third complaint, submitted on February 9, accuses Duterte of betrayal of public trust and corruption related to misused confidential funds totaling at least 612 million pesos. The House Committee on Justice is set to begin deliberations, and if the complaints are deemed sufficient, Vice President Duterte will be formally notified and given time to respond. The committee will vote on probable cause, and if supported by at least one-third of House members, the case will move to the Senate for trial. Tindig Pilipinas’ withdrawal and endorsement of the third complaint reflect a coordinated effort among complainants to consolidate evidence and support for the impeachment proceedings.
