President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has instructed the Philippine Department of Agriculture to accelerate the distribution of farm inputs to local farmers, aiming to facilitate timely planting and improve agricultural productivity.
During a public forum held with farmers and irrigation associations, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. acknowledged existing challenges in the coordination and timely delivery of agricultural inputs. He noted that many supplies originate from distant locations, causing delays. Consequently, he directed the Department of Agriculture (DA) to prepare and stockpile necessary farm inputs such as fertilizers and pesticides ahead of the planting season. This proactive distribution approach intends to prevent delays caused by late procurement or importation processes. Moreover, Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. has ordered a comprehensive investigation into alleged irregularities concerning the DA’s procurement and distribution processes following complaints from multiple farmer organizations. This probe goes beyond routine audits conducted earlier in the year that found no adverse issues. The Secretary emphasized that the investigation aims to ensure the proper use of public funds and uncover any potential wrongdoings. These steps highlight government efforts to enhance agricultural efficiency and support Filipino farmers in meeting their production targets.
