The Philippine Department of Transportation (DOTr) and partner government agencies offered complimentary transportation services to assist commuters impacted by the recent transport strike.
In response to a transport strike initiated by the transport group MANIBELA, the Philippine Department of Transportation (DOTr), alongside several government agencies, implemented free ride services on July 22, 2026, to support affected commuters. The free rides were made available during peak hours from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. across designated routes including Welcome Rotonda-Fairview, Recto-Cubao via Nagtahan, Quiapo-Cubao via E. Rodriguez, Quiapo-Fairview, Kalentong-Pasig Palengke, and PITX-Lawton.
This initiative follows the directive of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos to ensure the public’s mobility during the strike protesting recent significant oil price increases. The free transport service was coordinated in partnership with the Philippine Coast Guard, Department of Energy, Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Economy, Planning and Development, and the Department of Labor and Employment. The transport strike began as a two-day protest against the substantial hike in oil prices that took effect the day prior to the strike.
Official advisories have emphasized the government’s commitment to providing essential transport options in times of labor unrest to minimize commuter disruption. The DOTr continues to monitor the situation and coordinate with relevant agencies to protect commuter interests and ensure accessibility.
