LTFRB Approves 141,724 Jeepney and UV Express Units for P10 per Liter Fuel Discount

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has authorized over 141,000 public utility jeepneys and UV Express vehicles to benefit from the government's P10 per liter fuel discount subsidy program, covering all regions nationwide.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has approved 141,724 public utility jeepney (PUJ) and UV Express units for the government’s P10 per liter fuel discount subsidy. According to LTFRB Chairman Vigor Mendoza II, this number is based on their database of qualified beneficiaries from all regions of the Philippines. As of the latest data, 12,688 of these beneficiaries have successfully availed of the subsidy.

Mendoza emphasized the government’s ongoing commitment to supporting the public utility vehicle (PUV) sector despite fluctuations in petroleum product prices. Initially, the subsidy covers drivers and operators of PUJs and UV Express vehicles, with plans to expand assistance to other types of PUVs in the future. The program aims to benefit not only drivers and operators but also commuters.

The fuel discount subsidy program began as a pilot in selected gas stations in Metro Manila in collaboration with the Department of Energy (DOE). It has since expanded nationwide, with over 4,299 gasoline stations participating compared to an initial 50 stations in the National Capital Region. The national government has already disbursed more than ₱13.3 million in subsidy payments.

Additionally, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. approved a separate ₱5,000 fuel subsidy for PUV drivers and operators, alongside a service contracting program designed to optimize benefits for commuters.

To ensure efficient implementation, participating gasoline stations are linked to a government database via a mobile app listing qualified beneficiaries. Only PUVs with valid franchises are eligible, with a subsidy cap of 150 liters per vehicle per week. Upon confirmation of enrollment via license plate recognition, the discount is automatically applied at the pump.

The LTFRB manages the subsidy budget and coordinates with the Land Bank of the Philippines for processing and settlement with accredited fuel stations. Mendoza assured continuous monitoring and prompt response to ensure smooth execution of the fuel discount system nationwide.
