The Department of Education in the Philippines acquires over 172,000 Apple MacBook Neo laptops for teachers and staff, marking Apple's biggest laptop education deal to date with extensive warranties and training support.
The Philippines’ Department of Education (DepEd) has finalized a landmark procurement of more than 172,000 Apple MacBook Neo laptops for use by Filipino teachers and educational staff across public schools. This deal has been recognized by Apple as its largest ever education contract specifically for its MacBook product line.
Each MacBook Neo was purchased at a government-negotiated price of approximately PHP 43,000, which is about PHP 6,900 less than the laptop’s regular suggested retail price in the country. Notably, the purchase includes an unprecedented five-year warranty—significantly longer than the usual one-year coverage in past DepEd laptop acquisitions.
DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara emphasized this purchase as a significant milestone in boosting digital education nationwide. “For a long time, our educators have borne the personal cost of acquiring and maintaining adequate devices for instruction. This initiative, under the guidance of President Marcos, aims to change that narrative so teachers can focus on teaching,” Angara stated.
In total, under DepEd’s Computerization Program, contracts have been awarded for 231,725 laptops: 169,008 MacBook Neo units and 62,717 Windows-based units. The newly acquired MacBooks will be distributed from November 2026 through March 2027, with launch events planned regionally to introduce the laptops to schools.
This procurement also includes integrated productivity software, comprehensive delivery and logistics, as well as professional development programs to help teachers effectively utilize the technology. DepEd is partnering directly with Apple to implement “GuroXL,” an educational framework focused on integrating MacBook Neo technology into classroom teaching.
Apple CEO John Ternus highlighted the deal as part of the company’s growing education and health sector services during the 4th Quarter 2026 Financial Results Conference Call. “The Department of Education in the Philippines is deploying 170,000 MacBook Neos to teachers and staff, representing our largest educational contract for Mac,” he said.
The Philippine government, through the Presidential Communications Office, has lauded this milestone, underscoring its goals to strengthen teachers’ digital skills, reduce their workload, and promote modern technology in public education.
This significant investment in educational technology reflects the Philippine government’s commitment to enhancing digital literacy and supporting educators as pivotal agents of change in the country’s education system.
