Nepali Congress Holds 15th General Convention in Kathmandu

The Nepali Congress launched its 15th General Convention with a focus on tradition and progressive change as Nepal seeks prosperity.

Kathmandu, Nepal – The Nepali Congress (NC) commenced its 15th General Convention on October 4, 2026, at Khulamanch in Kathmandu, under the banner “Respect for tradition and resolve for change: NC as a strong alternative for prosperous Nepal.” The event was inaugurated by NC President Gagan Kumar Thapa, who symbolically planted a tree to mark the opening.

The convention attracted prominent political leaders across the spectrum, including Rastriya Swatantra Party President Rabi Lamichhane, CPN (Maoist Centre) Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal, CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel, Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chair Rajendra Lingden, and former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai. The gathering serves as a platform for outlining the party’s vision and electing new leadership.

Sessions conducted during the convention include speeches from guest leaders and closed-door meetings to deliberate on the party’s direction. The Central Election Committee announced that the elections for key party leadership positions will take place on October 4 and 5.

This convention is viewed as a significant event for Nepal’s political landscape amid a broader context of social and economic development priorities, with implications for governance and national prosperity.
