Attorney Paolo Panelo has been appointed as the new spokesperson for Vice President Sara Duterte, replacing Ruth Castelo. This marks a new chapter for the Vice President’s communication team, with Panelo serving as the official point of contact representing her views and engaging with the media and the public.
Panelo is not new to Vice President Duterte’s circle; he has previously served as her legal counsel amidst multiple perjury complaints filed against her. He is the son of Salvador Panelo, who notably served as presidential legal counsel and spokesperson for former President Rodrigo Duterte.
Paolo Panelo founded the Panelo Law Office in 2018 and began his legal career at Migallos and Luna Law Offices in 2011 after passing the Bar exam. Prior to his appointment as spokesperson, he served as a consultant and acting chief of staff to his father under the Office of the President in 2016.
Educationally, Panelo earned a degree in Development Studies from Ateneo de Manila University in 2005. He started law studies at Ateneo Law School and completed his degree at Arellano University School of Law in 2010.
The Office of the Vice President (OVP) highlighted that Panelo’s appointment aims to improve communication by making important information more accessible, clear, and easier for the public to understand. As spokesperson, he will represent the Vice President’s positions and facilitate engagement with various stakeholders.
Panelo’s appointment underscores continuity in legal and political support within the Duterte camp and reflects the Vice President’s commitment to transparent and effective communication strategies moving forward.
