KATHMANDU — Two workers trapped inside a tunnel of the Trishuli-3A Hydropower Project in Nepal have been rescued alive after remaining missing for 10 days following the catastrophic Bhotekoshi flood. The rescue operation was led by the Nepal Army with support from the Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and technical experts.
The workers, identified as Sanjay Sah and Kabir Maharjan, were found inside the project tunnel early on September 4, 2026. Nepal Army spokesperson Rajaram Basnet confirmed the successful rescue and the workers’ survival.
Medical assessments by officials revealed that Sah is currently in stable condition, while Maharjan remains in serious condition and received intensive treatment at Birendra Army Hospital in Chhauni. Both workers were admitted to the hospital for thorough examinations.
The rescue mission was part of a broader search and rescue effort following the devastating flood in Rasuwa district. Authorities had continued their efforts under challenging conditions, fearing that personnel might still have been trapped inside the damaged hydropower infrastructure. The successful recovery of Sah and Maharjan is being hailed as a significant relief and underscores the imperative of effective disaster response coordination in Nepal’s mountainous regions.
