Very Heavy Rain Forecast in Karnali and Sudurpashchim Hills of Nepal

Meteorological Division warns of very heavy rainfall on Sunday in the hilly regions of Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces amid ongoing monsoon activity affecting Nepal.

The Meteorological Forecasting Division of Nepal has issued a forecast predicting very heavy rainfall on Sunday in the hilly areas of Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces as the monsoon season continues to impact the country. In addition to these provinces, heavy rain is expected at one or two places in the Himalayan and hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, as well as the hilly and Terai regions of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim.

Moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely across many places in the Himalayan, hilly, and Terai regions nationwide, particularly affecting the provinces of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpashchim. The entire country remains influenced by monsoon winds, with the monsoon trough positioned slightly north of normal in the west and near normal in the east.

For Monday night, continued moderate rain or snowfall with thunderstorms is forecast in the Himalayan and hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini, with additional rain predicted in parts of Karnali and Sudurpashchim. Heavy rain could affect one or two places in the hills and Terai of Koshi and the hills of Bagmati.

Temperature forecasts indicate that despite the widespread rain, Janakpur will experience the highest temperatures ranging between 35°C and 37°C, followed by Simara (34°C–36°C), and Nepalgunj, Bhairahawa, Biratnagar, and Dharan reaching up to 35°C. Kathmandu is expected to see temperatures between 28°C and 30°C with a 60% chance of rain today and tonight, while Pokhara may have a 70% chance of rain with temperatures between 29°C and 31°C.

The Meteorological Division also reports a 70% chance of rain in Dadeldhura and Dipayal today, with lighter rain forecasted in Jomsom, where daytime temperatures will range from 22°C to 24°C and nighttime temperatures between 13°C and 15°C.
