Philippines’ DICT Enhances eGov PH App Servers to Prevent Downtime

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is upgrading the government eGov PH platform’s server infrastructure to manage increased user demand and reduce service interruptions.

The Philippines’ Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) announced on April 23, 2026, that it is undertaking a significant upgrade of the server infrastructure supporting the eGov PH app to prevent downtime caused by heavy user activity. The eGov PH app, a key government platform linking nearly 1,000 government systems and boasting around 40 million downloads, recently experienced temporary access interruptions due to a surge in simultaneous transactions. DICT emphasized that the downtime was not caused by security breaches but by overwhelming user volume.

To address these challenges, DICT is expanding cloud server capacity and improving back-end systems. The Department is also collaborating with various government agencies to ensure their systems are stable and better integrated into the eGov PH platform. This approach shifts part of the responsibility to individual agencies to manage their own systems while maintaining connectivity through eGov PH, reducing bottlenecks and minimizing the risk of total system outages.

DICT Undersecretary David Almirol Jr. highlighted efforts to build a more robust and reliable system capable of handling millions of users simultaneously. The government is pursuing additional funding to support these upgrades as usage of the app continues to grow. This development reflects ongoing commitments to enhance digital government services in the Philippines for smoother access and continuity.
