In response to rising fuel prices linked to Middle East conflict, Davao City government has formed an inter-agency task force to manage socioeconomic impacts and restore economic stability.
The City Government of Davao has officially set up an inter-agency task force to address the ongoing socioeconomic crisis resulting from the surge in petroleum prices. The creation of this Emergency Socioeconomic Crisis Response Committee, known as IATF-CRISIS, was formalized through an executive order issued on March 31, 2026, by Mayor Sebastian Duterte. This initiative follows a national energy emergency declaration by President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. due to an ongoing Middle East conflict influencing fuel prices. The escalating costs have impacted basic commodities, transportation, and economic activities within the city.
The task force is chaired by the city mayor, with the city administrator as alternate chair and the City Planning and Development Coordinator as vice chair. Its members include representatives from multiple city offices such as the City Information Office, City Vice Mayor’s Office, City Legal Office, City Engineer’s Office, City Accountant’s Office, City Budget Office, and the Department of Interior and Local Government-Davao City Operations Office.
Several subcommittees have also been formed focusing on areas including Peace, Safety, and Security; Employment; Social Intervention; Economic concerns; Health and Emergency; and Energy.
The IATF-CRISIS is mandated to develop and implement measures to respond to socioeconomic emergencies, monitor goods prices, ensure the stability of supplies, and coordinate recovery programs aimed at restoring normal economic conditions in Davao City. This coordinated local government approach intends to mitigate the adverse effects on residents and stabilize the city’s economy amid the challenging external energy crisis.
