The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board has authorized 20 buses to augment transport services for Light Rail Transit Line 2 passengers, easing congestion and offering additional routes between Antipolo City, Manila, and Quezon City.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has granted special permits to 20 buses to provide supplemental transport services for commuters traveling on the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) in Metro Manila. This initiative aims to address the increasing passenger demand and alleviate congestion particularly during peak morning and afternoon hours.
According to LTFRB acting chairman Greg Pua Jr., the permits were issued following a Department of Transportation (DOTr) initiative to ensure sufficient public transportation options for LRT-2 users. The buses will serve key routes connecting Antipolo City, Rizal, with Legarda in Manila and Cubao in Quezon City, facilitating easier access to schools, workplaces, and medical centers.
Of the authorized units, 10 buses will operate along the Antipolo to Legarda route via Marcos Highway, E. Rodriguez Sr. Avenue, and España Boulevard, improving connectivity to educational institutions such as Trinity College, the University of Santo Tomas (UST), Far Eastern University (FEU), and the University of the East (UE). The other 10 buses will ply the Antipolo to Cubao route via Marcos Highway and P. Tuazon Boulevard, enhancing access to the EDSA Busway and MRT-3 stations and major medical facilities like St. Luke’s Medical Center – Quezon City, De Los Santos Medical Center, and the National Children’s Hospital.
Half of these buses will operate as dedicated augmentation services starting from the LRT-2 Antipolo Station in Masinag, intended to ease congestion caused by a limited number of operational LRT-2 trainsets. Designated bus stops will be implemented to ensure orderly boarding and alighting for passengers.
This bus augmentation program is expected to reduce commuting costs by minimizing the need for additional rides such as tricycles and improve overall accessibility for commuters traveling between Rizal province and Metro Manila’s urban centers. It reflects LTFRB and DOTr’s commitment to enhancing public transport services amid rising passenger volumes on key transit lines.
