Four additional bodies were recovered from the avalanche-hit Himlung Himal Base Camp in Manang, Nepal, raising the confirmed fatalities to 11 amid ongoing search and rescue operations.

KATHMANDU — The number of fatalities from the avalanche at Himlung Himal Base Camp in Manang, Nepal, has risen to 11 following the recovery of four more bodies, the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association (NNMGA) reported on October 1, 2026. The avalanche struck the base camp on September 27 after heavy snow and continuous rain, causing significant destruction and leaving many missing.

The NNMGA Search and Rescue Team, working in coordination with Himalayan Holidays Nepal, conducted the recent recovery under extremely challenging conditions. The operation has been led by internationally certified mountain guides Pasang Kaji Sherpa and Bikram Karki, along with experienced climbing guides and rescue personnel.

Prior to Thursday’s recovery, seven bodies had been found — four in the first two days and three on the preceding Wednesday. Initially, 16 individuals were reported missing, including two climbing guides and 14 kitchen staff members. Search and rescue efforts continue as weather and safety conditions permit, with priority placed on the rescuers’ safety.

The NNMGA will release further verified information regarding the victims as it becomes available, emphasizing ongoing commitment to the recovery mission in the difficult mountain terrain.
