Senator Alan Peter Cayetano clarified that his recent trip to Singapore, taken with his family, was solely intended as a private break to rest. Speaking in a Facebook Live broadcast on Sunday, Cayetano emphasized that there was no disqualifying reason for their travel and described the trip as “routine, quiet and short.” He expressed surprise over the ensuing public scrutiny, attributing it to the growing “toxic” political climate which tends to escalate conflicts and controversies quickly.
The Cayetano siblings were seen arriving back at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport early Sunday morning. Senator Cayetano highlighted that responsible state agencies such as the Bureau of Immigration and the Office of the Ombudsman had found no issue with their travel plans.
This trip occurred amid heightened political tensions, including questions linked by some to the controversy surrounding the 2019 Southeast Asian Games cauldron construction and allegations of anomalies involving flood control infrastructure projects in Taguig City, a stronghold of the Cayetano family. Senator Panfilo Lacson has submitted numerous case studies and official documents alleging systemic irregularities in these projects.
