The House conducted its first coordination meeting with various agencies to ensure a simple yet dignified 2026 SONA for President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos.
The Philippine House of Representatives convened its inaugural inter-agency coordination meeting on June 9, 2026, in preparation for President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos’ upcoming State of the Nation Address (SONA) scheduled for July 27, 2026.
House Secretary General Atty. Cheloy Garafil emphasized the goal of conducting a SONA that is both “simple but dignified,” highlighting an intent to avoid extravagance such as red carpets or long gowns. Invitations for the event encourage attendees, particularly women, to wear simple Filipiniana attire, reflecting the desire for modesty aligned with the times.
Representatives from key offices and agencies were invited, including the Presidential Management Staff, Presidential Communications Office, Office of the Presidential Protocol, and the Armed Forces of the Philippines, among others. Senate Secretary Atty. Renato Bantug Jr. also attended, acknowledging recent political developments within the Senate but affirming the Senate’s commitment to support the SONA preparations.
The SONA is a constitutionally mandated annual address where the President reports on the status of the country and outlines the administration’s priorities for the coming year. It serves both governmental and political functions and is expected to attract extensive public and media attention. This 2026 event marks another milestone in the administration’s tenure, reflecting its commitment to transparency and governmental coordination.
