President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. emphasizes adequate preparation by the Department of Education for the upcoming school year to avoid disruptions in students' learning amid seasonal challenges.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has called on the Department of Education (DepEd) to thoroughly prepare for the opening of the School Year 2026-2027 to guarantee uninterrupted learning for students. Speaking after attending the National Capital Region Brigada Eskwela Kick-Off 2026 event at Kapitbahayan Elementary School in Navotas City, Marcos underscored the importance of readiness, especially with the rainy Habagat season underway.
He reassured that DepEd is well-aware of its responsibilities and only requires continued support to improve educational facilities. The President instructed DepEd to ensure all preparations are complete to prevent any delays or interruptions in classes, thereby sustaining students’ education without gaps.
The Brigada Eskwela, a nationwide school maintenance and preparation campaign, took place from June 1 to 5 to ready schools for the June 8 class opening. During the event, Marcos inspected ongoing preparations and safety measures and engaged in literacy activities, including a storytelling session of the Philippine fable “Ang Matsing at ang Pagong,” authored by national hero Jose Rizal, with Grade 1 learners.
DepEd expects enrollment to reach approximately 28 million students for the school year, highlighting the importance of smooth operations and facilities readiness. Over 55,000 personnel are set to be deployed to support the “Balik Eskwela 2026” campaign, underscoring the nationwide effort to facilitate a seamless start to classes.
