Philippine President Highlights Cambodia-Thailand Commitment to Peace Talks at ASEAN Summit

During the 48th ASEAN Summit, the leaders of Cambodia and Thailand agreed to direct their foreign ministers to continue dialogues aimed at preventing conflict and fostering peace, as affirmed by Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

At the 48th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit, Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. announced that Cambodia and Thailand have instructed their foreign ministers to sustain diplomatic talks to ease tensions and prevent conflict escalation. The agreement came after a trilateral meeting involving President Marcos, Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet. The leaders emphasized the importance of open communication, restraint, and constructive engagement to maintain peace and stability in the region.

President Marcos highlighted the mutual commitment to manage differences peacefully, noting the leaders’ shared belief that now is the time for peace, not war. This diplomatic development follows the Philippines’ role as ASEAN chair, which included readiness to serve as mediator between the two nations to foster dialogue and resolve disputes. The continuous talks signify a regional effort to uphold peace amid existing tensions.

This announcement is particularly relevant for overseas workers and diplomatic communities as it signals improved stability and cooperation in Southeast Asia, potentially affecting labor mobility and regional economic development positively.
