The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced the suspension of the number coding scheme on April 9, 2026, in observance of the Araw ng Kagitingan holiday, with added reminders for commuters and announcements of free train rides.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has declared that the expanded number coding scheme will be suspended on April 9, 2026, coinciding with the regular holiday commemorating the Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor). According to the advisory, number coding is automatically suspended during regular and special non-working holidays. The MMDA urged motorists to plan their journeys carefully to avoid inconveniences and to prioritize safety while driving. Additionally, in support of the holiday observance, the MRT-3 and LRT-2 rail systems announced free rides on April 9 for all commuters. Veterans are entitled to free MRT-3 rides from April 6 to 11 during the train’s operating hours. The LRT-2 offers free rides on April 9 during morning and evening peak hours, specifically from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. These measures are aimed at honoring the national holiday and facilitating commuting for the public.
