Kim Jong Un Reappointed as North Korea’s President of State Affairs

North Korea's Supreme People's Assembly reaffirms Kim Jong Un's leadership amid constitutional amendments and economic planning discussions.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has been officially reappointed as the president of state affairs by the country’s Supreme People’s Assembly, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA). This decision was announced following the assembly’s first session convened in Pyongyang, where lawmakers discussed potential amendments to the socialist constitution and reviewed the country’s economic five-year plan unveiled at the recent Workers’ Party Congress. The assembly, functioning as North Korea’s rubber-stamp legislature, is responsible for formalizing state policies. The session also included the election of the chairman of the State Affairs Commission and other key leadership positions. Recent focus has been on whether constitutional revisions will formalize Kim’s “two hostile states” policy towards South Korea, marking a shift from the long-standing goal of peaceful reunification to regarding the South as a hostile entity. This development remains significant for regional geopolitics and indicates continuity in North Korean leadership and strategic direction.
